Featured designer: Anna Cohen
It's easy enough just to buy organic fabric and call your clothes "sustainable," but Portland fashion designer Anna Cohen has built her company around sustainable philosophy from the ground up. Trained in Italy, where she worked for MaxMara and Patrizia Pepe, Cohen returned to the US determined to create Italian-style clothing within an environmentally and socially responsible framework. To this end, she calculates that she's made her line 75% sustainable thus far, using local resources, recycled materials, responsible office practices, and more -- all while turning out a highly wearable collection of day and evening pieces, shown on noticeably healthy, multiethnic models. The first two collections show a promising start -- and I'm looking forward to seeing it develop further!
